The Meaning of... "Work"?
I was running through my day last night and started thinking about my last post and priorities. Then, I started thinking through what affect my "work" has on me and the world around me. I'm trying to prioritize my life and I want to get the "right" important things to the top, I have to decide what the "right" important things are at the moment. Right? So, work and my aspirations for what I would like to do with my life have come in to play. I love my "job" at Y&C and have been inspired recently by a book I'm reading, see here, to consider that "job" my "art". I have these ideas running through my head and I have been able to articulate a lot of those recently making me feel worth something at my "art". I feel like I'm creating. It's cool.
With all of this in mind I'm thinking through this priority of "work". Here are some questions I'm asking:
- What goals do I want to establish? (Short Term, Long Term)
- What is REALLY important about what I'm doing?
- What affect can my "art" have on my relationship with my family?
- What affect can my "art" have on my relationship with God?
I recently posted a brief question similar to this on Facebook and received an interesting comment. Kim indicated that business, or your "art" (I hope), is a tool for the Glory of God.
What do you think of that statement? What does that mean to you? What does it look like to you?
I'll post my answers in comments after I hear yours. :-)
